How home theater systems work?

‘Home Theater’ is a term that is difficult to define. In a vague sense, it can be defined as a form of entertainment system that reproduces the experience of watching a movie in a theater, in terms of video and audio output, at home itself. Home theater systems are primarily designed combining multiple electronic components in order to produce a theater-like experience. The concept of home theater came into existence 1950s. However, it has become increasingly popular in the recent years with the invention of high quality electronic systems such as surround stereos and high-definition plasma TVs.

Home theater systems are comprised of five basic components. First one is the input devices that include high-definition DVD players, Blu-ray player, VHS player and game systems. These input devices are connected to processing devices such as an AV receiver or a preamplifier and sound processor. The processing devices process the information sent by the input devices and covert into video and output formats. These processing devices are then connected to audio output devices such as speakers and subwoofer and video output devices such as LCD TVs, video projectors or a Plasma TV. The last important component of a home theater system is the environment in the room. It is important to have properly designed rooms that are insulated and sound proof, comfortable seating arrangement and properly connected devices to have a feel of watching a movie in a theater.
