Choosing An HDTV Antenna
How To Choose A Right Kind Of HDTV Antenna?
A HDTV antenna is a device that needs to be fitted along with a HDTV so as to pick up high definition broadcast
signals from the air. This antenna works on the same basic principle as like any other antenna that is used for
picking up signals for analog or digital televisions. These signals are then transmitted to a HDTV tuner that
converts these high definition broadcast signals present in the ATSC format to HDTV format.
Why should one opt for a HDTV antenna? A separate antenna for HDTV is not at all required if the existing
antenna can receive both VHF (CH. 2-13) and UHF (CH. 14-69 signals). Another reason for setting up an antenna for
HDTV is that local cable operators do not always transmit free satellite-to-air HDTV channels because they do not
have the necessary equipment for doing this job. Even if these operators transmit HDTV channels, signals are
transmitted in a high compressed manner, thereby reducing the picture quality to a significant extent. Moreover,
antennas for HDTV are highly useful in rural areas that do not receive high definition broadcast signals. There are
two different varieties of antennas for HDTVs. These include indoor antennas useful for amplifying the picture
quality and outdoor antennas that are useful in picking up distant signals. Depending on the utility and
requirement, one can install any one or both these varieties. Another advantage of these antennas is that they are
priced very low and can range anything in between $25 and $150.

By Cable Operators.
